Articles

The articles are really adjectives and are used infront of noun.

There are two types of articles.
one is 'A' or 'an'
second one is' The'.

                                                      A and An

'A' and 'an' are called indefinite articles because  it's giving meaning of indefine persons, things or anyone.

          Example: A policeman,  an aeroplane,  a tree,  en egg etc.,
In these sentences articles are not mentioning about a particular thing or person .

'A' is used before words starts with consonants.
         Example: A bus,  a tailor, a book, a potato etc.,

'An' is used before words starting with vowels(a,e,i,o,u).

        Example: An apple, an iron, an event, an honey bee.

We should use  articles according sound 'a' is used before consonants and 'an' is used before vowels
(a,e,i,o,u). But before 'u' and 'o' sound words we used 'a' in some cases.

       Example: a university, a uniform, a one rupee note etc.,

                                                         THE

The  is called definite article because it refers a particular thing or person.

      Example: The Sun, the lawyer, the earth, the greatest writer, the Pacific Ocean, the poorman etc.,

Before name of Islands, rivers, seas, mountains,stars,countries we  used 'the' article.

      Example: The Pacific Ocean, The Ganga river,The Bay of Bengal, The England etc.,

Before some famous books we use 'The' article

     Example: The Mahabharat, the Bible, the Ramayana etc.,

Before abbreviations we use 'The' article.

     Example:  The U.K, The U.S.S.R., The U.S.

Before newspapers we use 'The' article.
   
     Example:   The Hindu, the Indian Express, The times of India etc.,
